Teacher, trainer, coach, what is the difference?
Language coaching is a learner-led process aimed at developing a client’s language skills and confidence.
While a teacher follows a pre-planned curriculum, a language coach takes a personalized client-centered approach providing guidance, resources and motivation supporting them to achieve their own language goals and overcome their language learning obstacles.
Language Teacher

A language teacher has a set curriculum. She has to get through the plan within specific time constraints. Diverting from this plan is often not desirable nor possible. The learner’s specific needs and goals are usually not the focus.
Language trainer

A language trainer also has a plan and goals. However, there is more flexibility and fewer time restrictions as to how to reach these goals.The learner, their specific situation and challenges, are addressed more directly.
Language coach

A language coach goes even further by supporting the learner with strategies for practical, mental and emotional aspects of learning. By doing this, the coach and coachee develop a personal connection to each other and a safe place is created where the coachee can move through their fears to expand their English language skills. The learner’s ability to actively use the language grows as does the learner themself. The synergies offered by combining language learning and coaching are a compelling argument for you to make that initial contact–go for it!
